LEXIS
Lexis refers to individual words that have many different meaning in language according to how you use those words in context, situation or other factors. Moreover, lexis no only focus on words, but only studies how they work together to produce phrases, sentences and texts.
What kind of meaning you can words have?
1. Denotative meaning
Denotative meaning is about the literacy of meaning of the words. It is something that is stated in books and dictionaries.
Word: Blue
Sentence: My car is blue ( It refers to the color of the noun)
2. Figurative meaning
Figurative meaning is how people perceived the meaning of the words according to the situation or context in which the word is used and placed.
Word: Blue
Sentence: I feel blue because I could not go to the party. (It refers to the emotion that the person feels)
