Exponents can express the different functions of the language. So, context and exponent help to discover what the function is.

A girl is talking with a friend about activities she used to do in the childhood. She says: | "When I was a child, I used to go to the park with all my cousins. We used to play and buy ice cream." | Narrating a memory about her childhood. |
It is a sunny day. A boy wants to drink something with his friend. He says: | "Let's go to drink some beers" | Suggesting to drink something. |
A girl forgot a gold bracelet in a party and she has to come back it to her mother. She says: | "Sorry, I lost your bracelet" | Apologizing to lost something important. |
A student doesn't understand very well a special topic in the class. He tells to the teacher: | "Could you give me an example about that topic, please?" | Asking for clarification with an example. |
