Listening for gist: It is extensive listening for skimming. You have to get a general idea about a topic. 

Listening for specific information: Here, you have to listen to discover a specific piece of information. 

Listening for details: It is necessary to listen to each word to understand as much information as possible.  

Listening for inferring meaning: People listen to conversations to infer the relationship between people from the words they use. 

Listen for predicting: The teacher uses it to introduce a topic. Students listen a part of the recording and after that have to predict what is going to happen next.
