MOTIVATION KEYS
According to Z. Dornyei and K. Csizér, investigators of motivation, have set ten important items that influece learners' motivation:
- The teacher
Teacher is one of the main keys that influence motivation on learners because she/he is a guide for students to continue studying and learning. There are some characteristics that teacher should follow. For example, teacher should be comprehensive, sensitive, patient, and be commited with the class doing her/his best. - The classroom environment atmosphere
Classmates are also involved in motivation and trasmit their emotions to others. That's why it is important to create a good atmosphere in which students feel comfortable to continue learning. - The task
Teachers must send tasks to their students with clear instructions, and presenting the objective of hoework. Examples of tasks can sometimes be provided too. - Rapport
It is elemental to keep a good, respectful, and peaceful relationship not only between teachers-students and vice versa, but also between classmates. - Self-confidence
Self-confidence consists of making students to be sure about their learning progress by giving them positive feedback and praise when they have done a good job. Moreover, teachers must be sure about goals that their learners are achieving and let them know. - Interest
Interests of students are relevance because they need to feel motivated using topics that are appropriate depending on their age, using didactic materials and give clear activities that challenge them. Students learn better and do not feel stressed when they are learning without grading them. - Autonomy
There are two things that students must develop: imagination and responsibility when they do tasks and activities inside and outside classroom. - Personal relevance
Tasks should be personalised. It means that teacher should do and prepare his/her class using their own materials, ideas and examples. - Goal/Target
Either teacher and students have a goal to achieve in every class. Teacher must let them know the objectives, purposes and the activities that are going to do. - Culture
Language is connected with culture, so that it is good for them to get familiar with the traditions and customs of the country and people who speak the laguage that children are learning. In this way, they understand how language works better in a real life context.
